Between work, family, friends, travel, and spending some QT with my pup, life can get pretty hectic. Sometimes it seems like a struggle just to get food on the table…and I know I’m not alone. A 2011 study looking at 34 mostly Western countries found that Americans spend the least amount of time preparing food (30 minutes compared to an average 2 hours and 8 minutes). We also spend less time actually eating it (1 hour and 14 minutes compared to an average 1 hour and 41 minutes). Between our busy-is-better corporate culture, abundance of fast food restaurants and the dominance of packaged “convenience foods” over “real food” in grocery stores, I can’t say I was surprised by these results.
