An Eventful EXTENDED Weekend…

Standard

This weekend has been far from ordinary.  It is strange when life takes it course the laughter just seems to seep out of everything.

Making it on the list of things that occurred:
1.  Grandma’s house caught on fire
2.  Herb is in the hospital
3.  No fun in the sun really at all this weekend except for what I got in the car
4.  No house cleaning attempted; no house keeping claimed
5.  Slept in at the cost of missing breakfast….it was worth it though!
6.  Trying to freeze off a small but pesky little plantar wart….grrr…
7.  Got a great chance to catch up with Sassy Sis and had some good humor with her children

Friday:

Get a call early in the morning, Herb was having a hard time breathing so they took him into the hospital.  Went to see him at lunch-time and we shared his meal because he just wasn’t all that hungry.  He seemed lucid and with it.  Good sign.  I left work early to help judge a cheer try-out for a friend.  I was planning on going over to Sassy Sister’s house right after.  At approximately 6pm I went over there.  She fed me wine and pizza and then we talked for a good 4 hours.  Her 2 very smart beautiful little boys made me laugh so hard.  They have so much energy!  The best comment, just as I was walking out the door was “Here Ms. Cat! Don’t forget your baby wipes for your baby!”  I looked at Sassy Sis and was completely puzzled!  They made us both laugh to tears.  Sassy goes, does he know something that we don’t know?  HAHAHA.  Nomad didn’t laugh as hard as we did about the situation…

Saturday and beyond:

I was up talking to Herb and I thought you all would get a kick out of this one.  A few nights ago, he tried escaping.  Uh huh….like the determined man he is, tried to get up on his own.  He pulled his catheter and IV out.   OUCH!  When I got there, he just rolled his eyes.  The one nurse said as he was trying to pull his cords out again, “you don’t want to pull your penis off now do you?  Because that’s what will happen!”  He just rolled his eyes and we just laughed.  Hearing aid battery went dead.  He seemed to be getting confused.  Less crisp as the days progress.  He still needs some paperwork to be signed and such but that I don’t think is going to happen.

Needless to say every family is dysfunctional, but Herb really doesn’t get along at all with his true blood family.  This is not new news.  It is such a shame.  He has suspicions that their intentions are not from the heart….well I cannot speak on their behalf but, I can say that I agree with Herb 100%.  This has been a hard process for me.  It is very humbling seeing him go thru this…it also really sucks.  I have done a lot of praying and discerning.  I had to lift him up, witness him flashing me accidentally, him trying to escape and me actually holding him back and helping feed him.  It has been a really hard process.  To see a man who was completely independent and going thru this “damit, I need you to do this for me…” frustrated stage is a true bitch.

In my heart, I know he is tired of it all.  I am hoping this is just a phase and he will bounce back once his medicine gets regulated.  I truly never thought at 25 I would ever be walking with a friend thru this stage of his life.  I know that he appreciates it…but he too feels as helpless as I do.  Yesterday, was a rough day and that was hard.  Today was especially hard because he was getting more confused.  The nurse told me it was from carrying fluids on board…but you know when the joking gets less and he just is sitting there is simply enough.  He keeps asking about his cart…”where’s my cart?” I would retort “Herb, It’s safe at the apartment for you.”  Herb would then reply with a hesitance, “Ok…alright I guess.”

OH OH OH!!! I didn’t tell you!!!  Thursday, Herb’s NEW motorized cart was almost accidentally stolen by another lady eating at the Cafe’.  It looked similar enough to his, yet settings were different enough that yeah.  He yells from across the room “hey HEY HEEEY”  (progressively getting louder)…I simply walked up to her and told her I thought she had the wrong cart….she agree’d and that was that.  It was flipping hilarious!!!

Well so that is that.  Nomad is to be calling soon so I must jet!  Love you all and remember (as Herb always says!)  Life’s a bitch, then you die!  (fingers crossed on the second part that isn’t the case this time!)  Please keep him in your prayers!

Love your family.  Be merciful and compassionate to them.  We know not the struggles they face and we know not how much time they have left.  Make sure to kiss and sincerely make up at the end of everyday.  Do not let a moment waste!  Tell them what they mean to you daily…they may get sick of it but, at least they will know!

About par for the course….

This morning, I woke up on the wrong side of the bed.  I woke up disgruntled and irritated.  Then I went to the bathroom and started to brush my teeth.  I noticed after I was done that I used the wrong toothbrush.  Yep, the wrong toothbrush.

I took my car in and a new oil pan is in order….something clinked it.  Great.

Next, I was just irritated for no reason then the story became a trickle down effect.  I was cussing up a storm just because frankly I didn’t care.  I read an article in the news that really aggravated me, someone said something that was just caddy, then out of no where it started to rain….again.

Original plans were as follows:
-Drop car off
-Finish my work and correspondence
-lunch
-Go drop groceries off at Herb’s
-Pick up samples and go home for the day

Made some email correspondence to pick up some samples and that ended up being one huge mess.  Came back from lunch.  I get an email….”hey we want to leave by 2pm so, please pick them up before that point!  Thanks, see you then!”  Left right away and I wrote down the wrong number, walked into the wrong place then, went to the chamber.  It was across the street so, that wasn’t bad.  Then, I knocked.  And knocked. I called my contact twice while there and no answer…then I got in my car and started back to work.  This wouldn’t have been such a bad situation if I didn’t have to drive 1/2 hour to get there and change my original plans around significantly.   Well she called me back and met me half way.  No real conversation was exchanged except for a thanks.  1 hour and a half of another later…I was finally off to visit Herb.

Pretty well sums it up! Image from: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/200438276-001/Stone

On the drive back into town, I had ripe bananas that were in the car stinking it up.  FYI, I was driving my dad’s car since mine was still in the shop.  My dad CANNOT STAND the smell of bananas…so I roll the windows down.  Then it started raining, so I roll the windows up.  This happened about 5 times.  By this time I am yelling at the skies above me “would you make up your freaking minds!!!  I am trying to avoid a PROBLEM here!?”  Then kept driving.  OH then I forgot!  MY CELL PHONE DIED.  Great.  Just great.

I proceeded to drive straight to work and had my sister drop me off to get my car then I drove straight to Herb’s humble abode.  No time wasted at all.  Herb calls with 2 seconds left of juice on my phone and I show up looking like I had been in a tornado.  Bananas and groceries in hand, no one really said anything.  I did see one of my favorite residence (he totally put me in a great mood) Jimbo who was pulling weeds and checking on his tomato plants.  He is such a kind soul.  He has terminal cancer and just is doing his thing.  Only a matter of time I suppose.  Upon talking to him, I zipped up to see Herb where the only prophetic thing I could say was “Holy Fuck”.  Yup.  That was exactly what I said.  He looked at me with his head turned to the side confused…then he repeated, “HOLY FUCK?, holy fuck??  Sit down lets talk about it.”

I explained my whole day and why it was just so crazy.  We were laughing so hard we were crying.  It was the perfect end to the day.  Then I flat-out told him I was on the rag (because this is the kind of relationship we have) and he just looked and said guys have their own cycle too.  Made me feel better.  He just knows how to cheer me up.  It was just what I needed.  Then we had to get him off to a hair apt. downstairs.  As we got into the elevator, he just repeated “holy fuck” twice under his breath and shook his head.  He was giggling.  I reminded him that was our little secret…hahaha.  Oh man did he get a kick out of that!

I love that man dearly.  I am so blessed to have a friend such as he!

Currently watching Mean Girls.  You know the one with Lindsay Lohan…prior to all of her time in jail.  It’s like I have ESPN or something…

3 rice crispy treats later…OK this I can justify because they had the perfect ratio of marshmallow and crispness.  They weren’t too hard, they weren’t so mushy that they just get your fingers and everything so sticky.  It was fantastic.  They were just wonderful!

nom...nom....nom....

Well for those of you who don’t know….I am in Aspen Co. until Jan 31st.  I am here with work.  This morning I got in and we consider this first day “set up” day.  Not bad really.  We are training and getting everything set up for the rest of the week.

Today I realized that life can be made so much better by keeping things in perspective and being organized.  I was super organized, had a list to go down, and I feel that it was a positive start to the day.  I am not sure how our “newbie” thought it was.  I think he is one that does better moving a ton instead of staying stationary.  But, he is doing well.

HA.  So following all of this madness….I am digging that I can relax.  I kick my feet up.

NO, I just got off the phone with my mom.  I really don’t like mean girls.  This cheer squad I coach has just got me all in a funk.  These girls are mean.

Yup....these are my girls....oh wait!

I am sorry but there is no reason to be mean….what is there to be mean about at 13 and 14~!!!  (ironic that I would be dealing with this tonight huh?)  WTF mite!  UGH.  Yeah about that….Not thinking about it….think happy thoughts…..happpy happppy thoughts!

I leave you with this little quote from Shakespeare…  🙂  OH happy day….

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.  ~William Shakespeare

Today friend, I would like to say thank you.  Thanks for being there for me when I needed you the most and thanks for always giving me the honest truth.  Thank you for telling me when I have lipstick on my teeth, or when those pants fit too snug….OR when I am being that girl and  just laughing at me.  Thank you for always standing up for me when I was being made fun of and thanks for sticking with me even though I would have never blamed you for calling me too weird to hang out with in public.

Thanks for never letting me out of the house looking like this!!

Thanks friend for laughing with me and sometimes at me when I was having issues.  Thank you for healing me when I was sad about a boy or just listening to me vent about people in my life who are demeaning…thanks for caring how I feel and what is happening in my life.  Thanks for the hugs and love you give me and thanks for always knowing just how to cheer me up.  I appreciate it.

BIG HUG!

For all of this, I am so thankful and happy to consider you my friend!
