My Catwalk down the Red Carpet….

Standard

So my beautiful friend Zahara (Earthquakes and Rattlesnakes) did something amazingly hilarious.  She apparently feels like I fit the category of most stylish blogger hehe.  This makes me laugh…considering I sit in my stylish rood sweatpants and my IU t-shirt….definitely don’t match at all…HOWEVER, I do have my pool boy by my side so that is always a plus!  He will be my exotic escort as I strut down the Red Carpet…I see the flashes now!  Click!  Click!  (Thank you!  Thank you, oh you are so kind…)

SO here are the rules:

  • Present seven things about yourself
  • Name about a half dozen bloggers you think deserve the award
  • Contact those people
  • Create a link back to the person who gave you the honor
  •

    AND HERE WE GO:

    1.  I love the Dutch language, culture, etc.  Can’t really tell you why…but I just do!

    2.  I have a passion for media, sports, and helping others.  Just trying to mesh them together  🙂

    3.  I am actually very short.  I am 4 foot 8 inches…enough said…

    4.  I have been a cheerleader for 12 years which is half my age minus one…it’s all starting to make sense now huh?

    5.  I have the best mentors and friends in the universe…online and in real life.  That is just fact!  But my family will always be number 1.

    6.  I am addicted to Bravo and The Food Network (um…but who isn’t???)

    7.  I speak my mind and stand for Truth.  I let that govern my actions.  I am who I say I am  🙂

I would like to give my nominees:

The Edmonton Tourist:  ET is fabulous and is the Queen of traveling.  She logs her travels and lives life from place to place.  Her and the Muppets–they never have a dull moment!

Working Tech Mom:  Oh a working mom that is just trying to get thru while keeping everything in perspective.  What a dear friend!  I would encourage anyone to read her blog if you are seeking a balance and fresh look on your life.

Speaking from the Heart:  For anyone that is looking for some spiritual perspective or guidance, Laurie does an amazing job explaining aspects of spirituality on levels one can really relate with.  We all could use a little more relaxing and calmness here….

Adventures and Insights:  This gentleman is so great!  I love his simplicity toward life and just amazing heartfelt freshness.  He brings some culture, music, common sense and over all just “amazing insights” to the playing field!  You might be surprised what you find on his adventures…

Thought of the evening: “Idea’s are nothing without action and attention”

    Workout…

    Standard

Yesterday after work I had some time of solidarity at my favorite place, the Chapel.  I got out of work late so I decided to spend sometime in quiet and I actually passed out for about a half of an hour.  It was a very nice power nap to get me thru the rest of my day.

Well upon leaving the Chapel I went home and got my workout gear on and ventured to the Y.  Let me tell you, I love people watching.  It also cracks me up that the people who are the socialites of the workout arena are skinny, tan, usually 18-35 years old or so, and they have a body that is not conducive to actually working out.

Yes...the skinny tramps look like this! Sigh and for the rest of us who have a curvy womanly body...

Now, this is merely an observation.  There are groups that congregate in the specific classes, around the machines, and at certain times of the day.  There are grunters, moaners and girls that have full-blown fake nails, make up, and hair all done up just to sweat a little.  It also makes me laugh at the little girls walking in wearing next to nothing but just a simply “cutsie” workout bra and spandex!  OK, I have a nice body but I am a curvy woman.  I could never wear that and feel comfortable at the gym.  First off, you would have to double those bras up so the “twins” aren’t banging me in the face (now I need no black eyes!) and second off it is a privilege…..PRIVILEGE PEOPLE….to wear spandex!  I am sorry ladies but full coverage granny panties that bunch when you run do NOT look so attractive in spandex and I totally respect that.  So no spandex for this girl!  Normally I am the kid wearing the big t-shirts and shorts that actually cover the bum up.  I don’t look like I am picking up on any of the gym rat boys who are trying to get swoll for Spring Break.

So everyone I am sure has heard of Jersey Shore, right?  I am totally not even kidding you these girls looked like Snookie!

    Personally....I would take the pizza!

Truly.  Not joking.  She looked exactly like her but in workout gear.  Skinny yoga pants, a clueless gaze, and was working on who knows what?!  Why is it necessary to look like this when working out but, to draw the wrong kind of attention and lose your cookies!  Sorry…just kind of annoys me.

I made the mistake in college once wearing a shirt I bought to support my roommate whom played Rugby.  See I was the flying Cheerleader and she was the Rugby extraordinaire!  I loved wearing those shirts out of support but, not to the gym!  The one day I got hit on by a fellow female student (I was wearing my Rugby shirt) and I am pretty sure that there was a “minor” assumption made!  HA.  Flattering, but sorry I don’t swing that way!  Needless to say, I thought twice before grabbing a random t-shirt to workout in…sigh.

I kind of get weirded out when people not only bring attention to themselves via the outfit chosen to work out in, but also at grunting or making animatistic loud noises!!  Is that really necessary???   REAAHHH-OOHHH-AHHH!  CLINK-CLINK-CLINK. SIGH. MAN…

I hope this evening I can zone out, not get distracted by Snookie and her Jersey Shore crew and make some progress training for this Mini Marathon that I am running in May!  Here goes another training session for me…

I will say this about yesterday, I laughed so incredibly hard.  I loved like I had never loved before, and forgot about the “dead weight” in my life.  Yesterday I was in the best of moods.  No idea why but I will take what I can get!  Today was very good over all now, we will see what this evening has in store!  🙂

    Happy trails,

    The CatMan

    I’m getting married!!! :)

    Standard

I volunteer with the Special Olympics of Allen County pretty regularly.  I have found that my athletes bring me so much joy.  One in particular is K-Man.  K-Man is a great guy…he’s middle aged, sweet as pie, and was one of my favorite athletes to assist during bowling season.  He just cracked me up!

Our routine was as follows (once he stepped in the door of course!):

-Help him put on his bowling shoes

-Get him set up on his lane (placing his ball on the ball rack was included in this task)

-Then helping him step down to the lane (even though he was perfectly capable of doing it himself) and watching him bowl.

I got to be his cheerleader.  That was pretty spectacular.  He would always ask if he was going to make 100…or if he was half way…always.  Then, he would throw in there “you goweeng to get my boweeng scorr wight?”…to which I would reply…”yes I will help you get your bowling score…but at the end!”….”ok!”  He would always have this big grin on his face and give me these big hugs.

One day he noticed my ring that I wear on my left hand…it wasn’t on my ring finger.  Then that’s where the humor came in…”Arrr you maweed?”, “No (slight chuckle) I’m not married”, “Will you marwee me?”….slight pause….”Someday K-Man, someday.”  He gave me this HUGE hug and just said were getting marweed!  He gave me the biggest kick that day.

What a precious give of grace and perspective.  These athletes–I just cannot explain or express what gifts they have given me!  They are such dolls.  I encourage you to hang out with them sometime.  They will truly change your life!

Me and the K-Man! Isn't he sweet?

    xoxoxo,

    I heart “The Mouse”!

    Standard

Tonight I turn to none other that Mr. Disney himself, Walt Disney:

“A person should set his goals as early as he can and devote all his energy and talent to getting there. With enough effort, he may achieve it. Or he may find something that is even more rewarding. But in the end, no matter what the outcome, he will know he has been alive.”

Tonight I visited the mouse!  I absolutely feel more energized and this feeling is like none other truthfully.  (Don’t think I am childish…you would feel this way too if you were here!)  I think if I could just get a weekly tasted of Disney I would be one of the happiest person’s alive.  No, but seriously……if you think I am kidding you should ask my friends.  MY TRUE friends!

My brother, sister, and I all went as kids to Disney and so began my love of The Mouse.  No joke, being a cheerleader in a UCA environment, all our competitions were at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.  I LOVED IT!  So, I am pretty sure that is all where my love of The Mouse began.

Mr. Y had never been to Downtown Disney, so we went on an exploration!  We saw dinosaur bones, dancing chickens, a man doing the “Macarena“, a Latin Party Central,  a magic store, giant Legos, a Crab Boat, a rain forest where you can eat under a huge mushroom, shops galore, and even a planet devoted to Hollywood!!!  What a treat!!!

What a beautiful reminder to set goals.  A reminder that I CAN dream and I CAN explore and most of all it’s OK!  AND the best part is The Mouse actually encourages it!!!  I have accepted that I am naturally thirsty and curious.  I am loving new environments.  AND overall that is how I learn best!  I am just so excited I was able to see Disney.  When I am there, everything is all new.  I got complemented today, I was all smiles, and I even (for a second time mind you) got compared to Mary Lou Retton!

    See some resemblance?

What a precious joyous day!  Mr. Y and I met so many wonderful people today and it all was well worth it.  It was nice being down here and it was nice learning from him.  There were a few people we wrote off at the ISSA Show; they had a burr up their bum….not our fault and we definitely didn’t let it ruin our day obviously.  🙂

When you are feeling discouraged, or you feel like you aren’t as good as what you should be please remember to love yourself and who you are.  “The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.” (another Walt Disney quote!)  Second, dare to dream!  Dream like Walt Disney dreamt, and you can never go wrong.  What an inspiration to everyone and just think, if we all loved and accepted ourselves as creatures of God and dreamt a dream and we all desired to make it possible….what an imaginative beautiful way of life it would be!   That right there friends is what it is all about!

    Please meet The Mouse! 😉
