Memories and Tears

Standard

My friend Brittany wrote this…can any of you relate?

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

This is a guest post from Brittany. She is an elementary teacher in the Indianapolis area who has a HUGE heart for Kenya.

I close my eyes tonight and I let the memories wash over me. I haven’t allowed myself to do this in so long. I’ve locked the memories up and tucked them away in a safe place. They try to creep out from time to time. It usually hits me when I least expect it. Something will trigger my memories…tonight it was something as simple as the song “Ring Around the Rosie”. Suddenly I am there again. Holding the hands of little children, hearing their voices sing the song, and seeing the joy and laughter on their faces. It brings a smile to my face and a pain to my heart. I long to be there again. To hold those little hands. To hear their joyful voices. To…

Make-up: It’s as Easy as 1, 2, 3

Standard

Here you go! Looking presentable doesn’t have to take a lot of time…it really is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Let me know what you think.

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

I will be the first to tell you that I really enjoy women who wear make-up that enhances (not takes away!) from their already stunning features. Don’t get me wrong, I love looking at make- up brands and artists on Instagram (such as @motivescosmetics and @_bylabella) but most of those looks are for show and not the average woman.

Make-up shouldn’t be a chore or something you should dread in the morning. A few good products and an easy routine can go a long way to making your beauty routine seamless and perhaps even enjoyable. Essentially, I am that girl who would rather sleep than primp. Ironic, don’t you think (let’s be honest, we could all use a little more sleep these days)? I have learned the few key shortcuts can fool anyone into thinking I spent hours on this beautiful face of mine. Want to know a secret? It really is simple!

Breakfast anyone?

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

This winter weather has been ridiculous! Colder temperatures and record snowfall amounts have plagued the midwest and northeast regions of the United States.  Why not dream of warmer weather while drinking some tropical smoothie-goodness? I mean, at this point we will have to dream of a beach, somewhere…sigh. Summer CANNOT come soon enough! Well if you are a fan of tropics, strawberries and mango, then I suggest you try this delightful recipe.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces vanilla milk of choice
  • 5 medium frozen strawberries
  • 1/3 cup diced mango
  • 1 serving vanilla protein powder

Being Called Home

Standard

The world just lost a very awesome gentleman. I don’t throw that word around lightly. Todd was kind and gracious and there was not a mean bone in his body. Please say a prayer, send a kind thought, or positive vibes to his family and loved ones. There won’t be a dry eye at his funeral and I can assure you–this mans reach extends further than any of us could ever know. ❤

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

This week has been an incredibly long one. I don’t know exactly what it is about getting older which makes things always a little more sentimental. We get a little more serious. We realize the things that were important in our youth, aren’t really AS important on the grand scheme of life. On Wednesday, I caught myself saying “Is tomorrow only Thursday?” and Thursday came and I wished so much I could take back those words.

We are drawn to certain people in our lives that touch our hearts in such a way as to never quite fully know the impact they have until it is too late. It was no accident I wound up at Indiana University and was a cheerleader there. It was no mistake either. I was so blessed to have met some awesome life long friends and people who you hope never to lose track of…

I Wouldn’t Change a Thing

#WorldCancerDay We all know people who are affected by this little yet big thing called cancer. Let’s show our support today and send good vibes, prayers, and let those who work IN the health business know how much we appreciate them fighting with us!

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

Recently I was talking with someone who doesn’t know me very well and they asked if I see myself in oncology nursing for the rest of my career. I answered honestly – I can’t imagine my career without working with cancer patients in some way, shape, or form. I truly do love what I do. Even when the world seems to be crashing, I can’t catch up, my feet ache, my brain hurts, I’m sobbing over exhaustion, or I’m sobbing over grief. I was made to do this. I’m not exactly sure when cancer patients became a passion of mine – it was more something that seems to have been weaved into the soul of who I am made to be.

10 ways to TRAVEL CHEAP

Standard

Awesome ideas here, do you agree?

I will tell you right now, I am no expert traveler. But after my husband got a job at the airline, we didn’t waste much time. In two years we have been able to travel to Thailand, New York, California, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Costa Rica and Canada, and both of us have, well, not so awesomely lucrative jobs. So here are some rules we stick to make it all possible!

1. Avoid Weekend Travel

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, because they are the slowest travel days of the week, will be your best bet for cheap flights. Avoid the weekend rush and book mid-week flights.

2. Pack Light

So many airlines these days are charging $15 dollars or MORE for checked bags. Avoid these extra fees by packing light, is possible, don’t check a bag at all. I have become a believer of the carry on. Skip the checked back line…

Why Inspiration Matters

Standard

Hey, do yourself a favor today! Look around…see anything that might inspire you? Don’t be afraid to inspire someone today. Peace and love!

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

Essentially the reason for the post is a lot of friends are frustrated in their current jobs. It’s like they have totally lost sight as to how or why they are where they are. The vision gets cloudy. Then they say…jumping ship to new job! But when I feel that way I have to begin looking for the inspiration that surrounds me. Sometimes it’s grim and other times it’s plenty and I’m just being dumb. I want to encourage others to see inspiration where they reside…I want to scream, “open your eyes! It’s there!” Before they say, “I’m out!”

There’s a reason you’re at where you are at. But don’t just give up so easily, you know? I think people get into a job and they say if this job isn’t what I want, well I can do better. Sometimes you do need new employment, but I think a lot of times…

Saying Goodbye is Never Easy

Standard

Do you know any nurses out there? They have the hardest job next to being a mom. My friend Erica recaps her 2014 with the ups and downs of being an Oncology Nurse. Happy New Years! Let’s bring it on 2015!

Anchor Drop - a safe harbor to talk about life

2014 has just a few short hours left. How is that possible? Where did the time go? Saying goodbye is never easy and 2014 was a year of goodbyes for me. Goodbyes suck. Even when they are opening up the door to something else, there is a pain and mourning that goes with each one. And I had a lot of them this year, A LOT.

Let go and begin again

Tonight I sat and walked through the goodbyes of 2014. From the beginning of the year where relationships that needed to be parted ways with were, saying goodbye to living in the city and the neighborhood I loved, transitioning to a new job, and the hardest part of all, each patient I said goodbye to. My heart aches and the tears roll down my face as I reflect back on 2014. It was a hard year. There are moments from this year…
